Haenam

Haenam(해남)

Haenam is a piece deeply connected to place and shared life. My wife’s hometown, located in one of the least populated regions of Korea, appears here not as a geographical point, but as an emotional space where time flows differently. The music is born from my experiences there with my wife and daughter — from everyday calm, fertile silence, and a sense of rootedness that is difficult to translate into words.

The piece also speaks about her. About her way of being in the world: a simplicity that is not naive, but refined; an elegance without artifice. This idea is reflected in the reference to ceramics — soft, essential forms; colors drawn from the earth itself; materials shaped over generations by her ancestors. Everything that is beautiful here is so without display.

Toward the end, a bossa nova emerges — one of her favorite genres. It does not appear as a contrast, but as an intimate, almost domestic gesture. A personal nod that introduces lightness and closeness, reminding us that this inner landscape is shaped not only by contemplation, but also by affection and complicity.

Haenam is, ultimately, a sonic portrait: of a place, of a woman, and of a family story that continues to be written in the present.
