Toño del Barco is a Spanish pianist and composer working in the field of contemporary jazz. His music is characterised by an interest in open forms, collective interaction, and the exploration of sound as a shared and evolving process.
After completing his formal musical studies in Spain, he has developed a personal artistic language shaped by improvisation, interdisciplinary influences, and a sustained engagement with both European and international creative contexts. His work moves between composition and spontaneous creation, often focusing on the expressive potential of silence, texture, and temporal elasticity.
In recent years, his artistic practice has increasingly centred on the exploration of musical identity in intercultural contexts. This direction currently unfolds through Madrid–Seoul Project™, an artistic framework for contemporary jazz emerging from musical exchanges between Spain and Korea. Rather than seeking stylistic fusion, the project investigates how different musical sensibilities coexist within shared spaces of listening, interaction, and creative risk.
Alongside his activity as a performer and composer, he is also engaged in pedagogical and research-oriented work, exploring the relationship between musical practice, perception, and emotional experience.
